Admissions

Thank you for your interest in the Three Little Ships Preschool.

Admission for typically developing children

For admission to the preschool, please complete and submit the Three Little Ships application form together with a copy of your child’s passport/birth certificate.

Once we have received your application form, your child’s name will be added to our waiting list.

An application can be made to join the Three Little Ships preschool from your child’s first birthday for future years. If you apply now, you will be contacted in the year that your child is turning three years old. If your child is offered a place , then you and your child will be invited to attend an open afternoon in the spring  and/or a visit in the preschool to meet classmates and the preschool staff.

Your child’s place is only confirmed when the following conditions have been met:

  • An application has been fully completed and submitted to the Director
  • A contract has been signed by the Director and the parents and returned to the school office
  • The first instalment of preschool fees has been made.

Cancellation of the school place once the contract has been signed is subject to the preschool’s withdrawal procedure.

If eligible for subsidised international primary education, children who attend the Three Little Ships pre-school have priority status for placement in the Reception classes of the HSV International department locations.
However, there is a separate admissions process for entry to the HSV International primary school and families must check the criteria before completing the online application process.

Admission for children with additional needs

The Lighthouse Early Intervention program is based in the inclusive preschool Three Little Ships and provides placements for children with developmental delays or other special needs that may affect their further development. Priority is given to children who, at the start of the academic year, are 3 years old before the 1st October in that year. In some very exceptional situations, a child may be considered for entry to the Early Intervention program before their third birthday.

Occasionally, children who are 4 years old join the preschool for one year, enabling them to gain more experience of a school setting before they transfer to supported mainstream education. Children who are four years old at the start of the academic year will be formally registered as students of the Lighthouse Special Education school, even though they attend the preschool.

Entrance Criteria

Admission requirements stipulate that four-year-old children admitted to Lighthouse Special Education must be:

  • either of non-Dutch nationality with parents working temporarily in the Netherlands ;
  • of Dutch nationality, returning to the Netherlands having already received international education in English for at least two years and need to continue their education in English;
  • or of Dutch nationality, expecting to leave the country within two years, and that the child will attend an international or English speaking establishment in their new country of residence.

More information about Lighthouse Special Education can be found on the school’s website: Lighthouse Special Education

For the Early Intervention program, please complete and submit the Lighthouse / Three Little Ships application form together with a copy of the child’s passport and recent professional reports. Please provide as much detail as possible and include copies of assessments from the last two years, including reports by psychologists, physiotherapists, speech and language therapists and other professionals. These reports should be translated into English. Proof of eligibility in the form of a letter from the employer or copy of the temporary contract are also required to complete a child’s application, if your child will be four years old at the start of the academic year for which you are applying.

Meeting

Once the application form has been received, the Director will contact you for a meeting to discuss the application. Following the meeting, and after discussion with the Learning Support Coordinator, a decision will be made as to whether the Early Intervention preschool programme is a viable option for your child. Sometimes it is necessary for the Lighthouse school staff to speak to your child’s current school or therapists before making a final decision. You will be asked to sign a form agreeing to the exchange of information with other professionals and schools before contact is made. Additional assessments may also be required before admittance to the programme is agreed and these may be completed by Lighthouse Assessment Team. The fees for assessment are listed on the Lighthouse Special Education site and may also be accessed by clicking here
